You'll find an amazing array of covered bridges near Xenia homes for sale, including most of the entries on our list today. First up is the Historic Engle Mill Road Covered Bridge, which was constructed in 1887 by the Smith Bridge Company. This bridge spans 148 feet over Anderson's Fork and uses Smith trusses in its construction. While it's closed to traffic, the Historic Engle Mill Road Covered Bridge is still kept in great condition today, and is well worth a visit for any fan of covered bridges.
Next up in Xenia is the Historic Ballard Road Covered Bridge, which you can find near the northern portion of Caesar Creek. This is a shorter bridge that:
The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and underwent a significant restoration project in 2015.
Our third stop in Xenia is at the Historic Stevenson Road Covered Bridge, which is the oldest of the three covered bridges in Xenia and was built using Smith double trusses. This bridge was constructed in 1877, and like the Engle Mill Road Covered Bridge, it was built by the Smith Bridge Company. The Stevenson Road Covered Bridge spans 99 feet over Massies Creek and remains well-maintained, even though it's no longer open to traffic.
The Cemetery Road/Glen Helen Covered Bridge has a unique story among covered bridges in Greene County, as it was actually rebuilt and relocated to a different part of the county in 1975. The bridge was originally constructed over Massies Creek in Xenia, just like the Stevenson Road Covered Bridge. With its eventual relocation, it now spans 70 feet over Yellow Springs Creek. It's situated in an area with extensive hiking trails, making this bridge a great choice for a fall hike.
Our final stop is back in Xenia to visit the Charleton Mill Road Covered Bridge, which is the second-longest bridge on the list. It spans 128 feet over Massies Creek and was built by Henry Hebble in 1883. It's an excellent example of the use of Howe trusses, which were popular in bridge construction at the time.
