Built by a local Girl Scout troop as a memorial to a tragedy, Angel's Pass Park is a beautiful area for a quiet weekend away. In addition to three primitive campsites, the area also includes a pond for fishing, plus a playground, picnic tables, and plenty of scenic hiking trails. Reservations and a permit are required.
- The Narrows Reserve - 2575 Indian Ripple Road, Xenia, OH 45385
If you enjoy canoeing or kayaking, head to The Narrows Reserve. Located near Xenia homes for sale, it's situated right on the Little Miami River, making it ideal for paddling, fishing, and more. There are also around six miles of hiking trails, through beautiful meadows and forests, plus plenty of local wildlife, including a bee apiary. Camping is by tent only, with one family (up to six people) allowed per campsite, and a permit is required.
- Old Town Reserve Park - 1360 Old Springfield Pike, Xenia, OH 45385
If you love camping but aren't sure about building a campfire, Old Town Reserve Park has you covered. Their campground is equipped with a grill and a picnic shelter, so load up a cooler with however many meals you're planning on, then go to the park to enjoy hiking or biking on the Little Miami Scenic Trail, plus sports and a host of other activities, then finish the day with a big family barbecue. The grill and shelter must be reserved in advance, separately from the campsite, so call ahead to schedule your summer camping trip and barbecue.
- John Bryan State Park - 3790 OH-370, Yellow Springs, OH 45387
Whatever kind of camping experience you're looking for, there's a campsite for you at John Bryan State Park. There are 31 sites outfitted with electricity, if you want a little modern convenience, and 19 that aren't, for those who prefer to rough it. There are individual campsites available for families, plus larger sites for groups of up to 20, which come with picnic tables and a fire ring. There's also a shower house on the grounds, plus a seasonal camp store that sells firewood and other camping necessities. While staying at the park, you can enjoy boating, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and more. Plus, kids can enjoy the Storybook Trail, a short, gentle hike that includes a Free Little Library with plenty of great reading material.
- Caesar Ford Campground - 210 S. Stringtown Road, Xenia, OH 45385
While most other campsites in the area are for tents only, Caesar Ford Campground can accommodate RVs as well. There are currently 12 campsites available, with plans to create 27 more in the near future—a mix of primitive, electric, and group sites. The area also has picnic pavilions, a disc golf course, and over 10 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and more.
