The pandemic may have put a damper on fall get-togethers last year, but this year organizers of fall fun in the area that includes Springboro homes for sale are making up for lost time. Fall festivals and pumpkin patches offer great venues for family get-togethers, with hayrides, haunted houses, scary (or not) face painting, pumpkin patch photos, pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, and more.
Our REALTORS® suggest you take some time off from the moving-in chores and get everyone together for some cool-season attractions. Here are some places and events worth getting out on the town for in the Springboro area.
- Kleathers Pumpkin Patch. 90 W Central Ave, Springboro, OH 45066
Kleathers Pumpkin Patch isn't huge, but their offerings are mighty. This 45-year-old farm sells mums, pumpkins of all kinds, corn stalks, and straw bales. Also for sale are fall items such as candles, candies, caramel apples, small gifts, gourds, squash, hand-painted pumpkins, and apple cider slushies. Kids can also visit with the ducks, rabbits, and chickens. Take a picture in front of the famous pumpkin carriage or with some of the Wizard of Oz characters.
- Windmill Farm Market. 1454 E. 1454 E. State Route 73 Springboro, OH 45066
Experience fall by getting on board for a hayride through the countryside. Then get a feel for how a pumpkin farm works when you inspect gourds in all their diversity at this renowned fall venue. Windmill Farm Market offers public or private hayrides as well as a variety of activities, including farmer's market, farm animals visit, hanging out in play areas, cornstalk tunnel, food vendors (Saturday and Sunday), and a weekend pumpkin bounce.
- Karnes Orchard. 8200 Worley Mill Rd Hillsboro, OH 45133
If apples are your deal, then you won't be disappointed at Karnes Orchard. Stock up on your apples for fall baking — Fuji, Granny Smith, Gala, Mutsu, Cameo, Rome, Winesap, Braiburn, Pink Lady, and Goldrush
— you name it. Pick your own apples or pumpkins, or pears, plums, peaches, and cherries. It's about a 50-mile drive from Springboro, but worth the effort if you're a fruit lover.
- Riverside Jaycees Haunted Castle of Carnage Trail. 1213 Old Harshman Road. Riverside, OH 45431.
Scaring the heck out of the locals since 1987, the Riverside Jaycees Haunted Castle of Carnage is just the thing for some Halloween screams and nail-biting terror. The haunted castle offers 20 rooms of frightening fun, and is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to midnight, and Sundays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., through Oct. 31. The haunted castle is about a 30-minute drive from Springboro, north through Dayton.
- Peifer Orchards. 4590 US 68 N. Yellow Springs, Ohio 45387
Peifer Orchards is a 40-minute drive from Springboro, but you'll be glad you went when you see what's there. The pumpkin selection alone is enough to dazzle the eyes, with pumpkins of every hue — orange, yes, but also white, many shades of blue, striped, not to mention some wild textures. Beyond pumpkins, you can select choice Peifer peaches and apples. Encourage the kids to join in for the U-pick apple events on the weekends. Don't forget to sample the small-batch, freshly pressed apple cider.
