Itching to get out of the house? Here are some great activities to do this month in Beavercreek.

As you tour Beavercreek homes for sale and Oakwood homes for sale this fall in search of your dream home, you may also be wondering what's going on in the neighborhood. You'll be pleased to find lots of exciting activities for you and the family, all within easy driving distance. These venues are a great way to get to know more about your new locale, as well as to possibly meet some of your neighbors. You'll also find exploring the local events calendar a fine way to get the family out of the house, away from the electronic screen, and into local adventures.

Here are a few fun things to do to get you started.

  1. Beavercreek Popcorn Festival. Dayton-Xenia Road, between North Fairfield Road and Meadow Bridge Drive.
Car Show at Shoup Park, 1341 Meadowbridge Dr., Beavercreek, OH.
    Sept. 11 & 12

Held annually the weekend after Labor Day, the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival is set to take place this year after being skipped in 2020 due to the pandemic. Organizers say they are "cautiously optimistic" the festival will take place but that they are watching closely as far as any health department recommendations and orders. If the event is held, plan to listen to plenty of bands and watch lots of dancing exhibitions. There will also be a 5K and Fitness Walk, a car show, shopping with numerous crafters, artists, and food vendors, and a kids' zone for games and activities.

  2. Beer Fest at The Greene. 4452 Buckeye Lane, Beavercreek, OH 45440.
    Sept. 18

Organizers urge you to "grab your crew and sample the brew" at this, the third annual Beer Fest at The Greene. Visit the Beer Fest web page and have a look at the many brews you can sample (sample 12 for $20 and get a 5 oz. souvenir mug), or visit the regular beer tent if you don't want to sample. There will also be live music with Timestamp, plus food trucks, including El Meson, JA Sweetums, The Big Stick, and Rolling Indulgence.

  3. Oakwood Farmers Market. Located on Orchard Drive and the adjacent public lot (off Far Hills Avenue) immediately behind the Oakwood Retail Center, Oakwood, OH.

The Oakwood Farmers' Market takes place Saturdays through Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Founded in 2013, the farmers' market is the gathering place for local farmers, gourmet food vendors, and artisans. Buy locally grown food, as well as gourmet food items and locally-made crafts in Oakwood, just 15 minutes away from Beavercreek. Take a tour around this pretty town when you're done at the market.

  4. 25th Annual Wool Gathering. Located at Young's Jersey Dairy, 6880 Springfield-Xenia Rd., Yellow Springs, OH 45387
    Sept. 18 & 19

It's a festival of fibers, with sheep, llamas, alpacas, Angora rabbits, cashmere goats, and other wool-bearing animals on view at the 25th Annual Wool Gathering. There will also be shearing demos, wool spinning, weaving, and other displays of fiber crafts and arts. Shop for some fabulous fiber goods offered by more than 100 vendors. Young's Jersey Dairy is an 18-minute drive from Beavercreek. Yellow Springs, by the way, is home to venerable Antioch University. There's also Cowvin's Kiddie Corral if you want to treat the kids to more fun.

Whether you've just moved into the area or are planning to make Beavercreek or Oakwood your home, you'll find plenty to keep you busy in the Dayton area. Just bookmark the Events in Dayton Ohio page, and you'll find all the info you need.
