The foyer is one of the first things your guests see, so it's important to decorate it right. Here's how you can give it a makeover.

Are you thinking of listing your home among Beavercreek homes for sale? Or are you just looking for ways to give your house a new look here and there without investing in a major renovation? One of the best and most effective things you can do is to spruce up your foyer. An updated foyer can have a positive impact on visitors — or prospective buyers — as they enter your home.

What is a foyer? Simply put, it's the space that connects the entrance to the rest of the house. But it might also be the hallway, entryway, the vestibule, or the entrance hall. Regardless of what you call it, it's where you make that important first impression on your guests. Here are some tips from our REALTORS® for remaking your foyer and turning it into a welcoming space you'll be proud of.

  1. Make it light and bright.
Imagine guests or prospective buyers enter your home on a cold and cloudy day and are greeted by a foyer that's dark and somber. How much more uplifting and inspiring if they enter a bright, cheerful space with lighter colors that elevate the mood? Artwork and furnishings should also augment this cheery message.

What's more, your foyer could make a bold statement. Look into some dramatic wallpaper, and go a little bit wild. Think geometric, and look for a sleek accent table to bring out the best of the wallpaper design.

  2. A foyer can be a storage solution.
You can have coat racks and such in the entranceway, but use your design acumen for dressing up your storage solution. A bench in the foyer with storage space for wellies, for draping scarves and hats and more, can be serviceable but also done the right way, attractive and inviting.

  3. Have a seat.
Whether you go for the storage bench concept or not, it's good to work in a place to sit in the foyer. It can be a couple of chairs for putting on boots or a place for a guest to linger and chat after a get-together. Having some sort of seating in your foyer is a gracious touch.

  4. Add a table.
It could be a console or a round table, but it's less for practical use than for showing off your decorative sense with a stylish vase, cool candles, or a stunning plant. A foyer table provides a prime locale for some of your most cherished decorator items.

  5. Make a statement with a rug.
We're used to seeing handsome rugs in entryways, but if you're looking for a way to make your foyer a standout, consider faux animal skin or fur. If you're into outdoorsy or rustic decor, complete the look with some old antlers or bones displayed above a bench made of barnyard wood. A horseshoe or two (hang the open end up to collect the luck) can't hurt the look.

  6. Go wild with tile.
The durability of tile is just one recommendation for using it in the foyer; the fact it's easy to clean is another. Additionally, you have so many choices in tile as a way to delineate the entryway. Gray, beige, and taupe are a winning combination for 2021 trends in tile. Have neutral walls? Offset it with a geometric design. Large-format tiles are another trend: they can widen up a room, enhancing the size of the entryway, while rectangular tiles can elongate the space.
