Did you recently move into your dream home among Beavercreek homes for sale? If you're like other homeowners in the neighborhood, you're probably looking forward to spring. What better way to say hello to spring than with a little spring cleaning?
Spring cleaning is a great way to feel lighter as you unburden your home of things you really don't need anymore. But getting rid of things is not the only way to launch into spring cleaning. Read on for some tips to help you enjoy your home this spring and all the seasons to come.
- Clean out the cabinets.
Our cabinets take a lot of abuse. Homeowners may even neglect to clean them regularly. Out of sight, out of mind, after all. Further, they can be the place where we tend to cram all those items we have too many of — things we'd rather not deal with just now, so we leave them for another day. You've probably gone through your cabinets before and steeled yourself to get rid of gift mugs you never used, odd plates and saucers, old jelly jars and such so that you have a little more room to stack things neatly. Spring is a great time to tackle this chore; box up things that can go to charity and recycle or throw away other things. Be sure to give the cabinets a good wipe-down before replacing your dishes, pots and pans, and all the rest.
- Mind the bedding.
Of course, you wash your sheets and pillowcases every one to two weeks, but how about the comforter, duvet cover, and the rest? Be sure they go in the washing machine two or three times a year.
- Don't neglect the windows.
You want to be able to see that glorious spring that's taking shape right outside your windows, don't you? Then get set to clean the glass, inside and out. Indoors, put a towel underneath to catch dripping water. Wipe the windows with a microfiber cloth, starting at the top and working your way down. Spray the windows with a solution of one part vinegar and two parts water, and again, starting from the top and working your way down, clean the windows. Wipe the windows with newspaper, a dry towel, or paper towels. Don't forget to wipe down frames and windowsills.
- Clean light fixtures and ceiling fans.
Keeping your light fixtures dirt-free will improve the lighting in your home while removing dirt along the edges of ceiling fan blades will keep them from dragging. Just wipe fixtures and bulbs, as well as the ceiling fan blades, with a damp cloth.
- Give the fridge a once-over.
You probably do this regularly anyway, but the change of seasons is an excellent time to go through the fridge, tossing out old items, and wiping down the interior, including the egg tray and vegetable bin. Check the freezer too to see if it needs a wipe-down.
- Go over kitchen counters.
First, remove any items you don't really need on the counter to reduce clutter. Put away unneeded small appliances, and put food items in the pantry. Then, wipe the counters down. Wipe the microwave walls and tray, and empty crumbs out of the toaster.
- Tidy up the recycling and kitchen waste bins.
It's not your favorite job, but someone's got to do it now and then. Take the bins outside and wash them thoroughly with bleach and detergent.
