If you're planning some home improvements, don't neglect the bedroom. Give it an upgrade with these tips.

Planning a redo? Too often the bedroom is the last place in our homes to get our attention. If you're thinking about some upgrades in your house before listing it among Beavercreek homes for sale, we've got some tips on sprucing up the sleeping space. The good news is that whatever you do, it doesn't have to cost a lot to get a sensational fresh look. You'll be amazed at what a difference a few pillows, a little bit of paint, and some other touch-ups can make, without breaking your budget.

You'll be spending way more time in your bedroom when you make these simple upgrades.

  1. Change your layout.
This could be the simplest upgrade of all. Take a good, hard look at your bedroom and imagine how things would look if you moved your furniture around. Maybe you've been trapped into thinking it can only go one way; we guarantee, you can change things up. Maybe you can position the bed at an angle in the corner. Do things seem jammed up? Take out a few pieces and let the room breathe. You'll find more room to move the major pieces around and voila! Improved feng shui, and a more balanced look.

  2. Improve the mood with paint
Paint can make a huge difference. There's nothing wrong with that white you've been rocking for the last decade, but it may be time for a change. Try a soft gray or a smoky blue, or one of those in-between colors now known as greige (between beige and gray). Painting isn't that hard, and the costs are minimal.

  3. Spruce up the walls.
Along with the new paint, you may need to upgrade the stuff on the walls. You don't have to spring for art from Sotheby's (although good for you if you can afford it). Acquire and frame some prints that express the inner you. Rearrange some objets d'art and found objects in interesting new ways on a shelf or a wall. Speaking of shelves: shop for distinctive-looking shelves and mount them on the wall, high or low, to show off your treasures, a plant, or some books.

  4. Jazz up your flooring.
You don't have to replace your entire floor, although if it's old and damaged (especially carpet) you might want to look into it. Otherwise, look for some rugs, either new or perhaps even second hand. Shag's had a comeback in recent years; you might also track down a vintage kilim, or a painted canvas rug. Make it subtle if that's your mood, or go wild and eye-popping.

  5. Change the bedding.
Bedding generally dominates in a bedroom, so if you can't really afford other upgrades, concentrate on the bedding. A new bedspread, duvet, and throw pillows can cost a bit if they're good quality, but it will be worth it. If you love splashy designs and bright colors, fine — knock yourself out. The other end of the decorating spectrum might consist of a muted blue, green, or tan matelasse spread, offset with linen sheets and some subtle dashes of color in the throw pillows. Have fun putting things together.

  6. Stow it away.
We mentioned above the beauty of removing some items in your bedroom to make room so you can rearrange the furniture. Take it a step further and acquire closet organizers so you can move more stuff out of sight. Acquire a trendy small cabinet or clothes hamper to make a statement while you're hiding the mess.
