Now that you've found the perfect Christmas tree, you'll want to care for it properly so that is stays fresh and healthy until the New Year. Unfortunately, many homeowners don't know how to keep their tree as gorgeous as can be. Here are a few helpful tips for caring for a live Christmas tree:
- It's recommended to purchase two additional resources: a tree removal bag and a tree stand that can hold a gallon of water or more. The stand will keep your tree hydrated; the removal bag will protect your floors and make it easier to clean up.
- Set up your tree in an unheated area for the first few days to help it acclimate to indoor temperatures. Then you can move it into its permanent place once you see that it's not drying out or losing needles.
- Sap can form over the base of the tree, preventing water absorption. Always make sure the tree bucket's water is above the base of the tree. Continue to water the tree every day with at least one quart of water. If the sap does form, simply recut the bottom of the tree.
- Always check your lights before hanging them on the tree to ensure that all cords are working properly. Never leave your lights on overnight.
- You do not need to purchase any additives to keep your tree healthy, as water itself will do the trick.
