If there's one thing that COVID-19 has taught us, it's that our home really is our sanctuary. Over the past several weeks, many of us have spent our time cleaning, decluttering, and working on small projects around the house.
As things start to open up and we return to a "new normal," being able to come back to the safety of our homes at the end of each day will likely become even more important. In fact, several of our REALTORS® have started working on projects to help turn their homes into relaxing havens that they can retreat to after a long day of helping buyers find the best Beavercreek homes for sale.
Need some inspiration? Here are a few of their favorite tips.
- Create a Book Nook
Do you happen to have a space in your home where you can tuck in a book nook? This will serve as the perfect retreat when you want to curl up with a good book and escape from reality for a bit. Think about converting unused attic space or a closet under the stairs.
Don't have a small space you can convert? You can still create a comfy spot in the corner of any room. All you need is a good reading light, a comfortable place to sit, some throw pillows, and a soft, throw blanket.
- Turn Your Bathroom Into a Spa
When we have some extra time on our hands, there's no reason to rush through a 5-minute shower. Instead, fill up the tub and relax for a while! You'll enjoy this even more if you add some touches that will make your bathroom feel like a luxurious spa.
First, make sure the lights in the bathroom are on a dimmer switch. Then, install some small speakers around the room so you can play your favorite music. Finally, pick up some bath bombs, a few candles, and some thick soft towels.
- Set Up a Hobby Spot
Many people are using this time to pick up a new hobby or re-engage with one that had fallen to the wayside. If you want to really enjoy your hobby, you'll need a comfortable place to do it.
For example, if you've taken up writing or journaling, set yourself up with a desk or comfortable chair, good lighting, and a great view. Did you finally get back into painting? Get yourself an easel, paints, and other materials. Then make sure you have a space to create your and places to store and organize your supplies. Same goes for crafts, sewing, coin collecting, and anything else you enjoy doing in your free time.
- Display Your Treasures
Do you have an incredible collection of books? Get a bookcase or some creative shelves and display in a way that adds to the overall decor of your home. If you have thousands of photos on your phone or in the cloud, print out some of your best ones, frame them, and create an image wall in your home.
The same goes for anything you've been saving for a special occasion. Pull out that fine china and find a way to display it in your kitchen or buy a glass-faced curio cabinet. Bring that beautiful quilt your grandmother made — the one you've had in your closet so nothing would happen to it -- and lovingly display it over a chair in your bedroom.
Creating comfortable spaces and surrounding yourself with the things that you love will help make every day you spend in your home feel special.
