Some homeowners relish house cleaning. It can be invigorating and a good way to clear your head. Other homeowners prefer to ignore the dust bunnies and pretend the oven is self-cleaning. But every homeowner could use a system to determine what areas need cleaning and how often they need care. Washing dishes or vacuuming seem fairly easy, but there are some cleaning chores that should be done regularly, if not as often. If your home is to stand out among the Beavercreek homes for sale, open your calendar and find a spot for the following chores on your schedule soon.
- Launder your living room. If your throw pillows have removable covers, remove and clean them according to the directions on the label. Remove the couch cushions and vacuum up any dust or crumbs that may have fallen between the cushions. Inspect all upholstery for stains. The University of Missouri Extension office has a guide to stain removal for all washable fabrics. Spot clean rugs and carpets. You may also wish to rent a carpet cleaner.
- Dust off your dining room. Launder all table linens. Clean and polish all wooden parts of the furniture, and spot clean upholstery. Remove all items from china and silver cabinets before you dust and clean the shelves. Polish the silver before replacing.
- Clean up in the kitchen. Remove all items from the refrigerator and freezer, and wash the shelves with a solution of baking soda in water. Vacuum the coils at the back of the refrigerator. Clean the oven according to manufacturer directions. Wipe down cabinet shelves and doors.
- Beautify your bedrooms. Organize your closets so that seasonally appropriate items are within easy reach. Launder the bed linens. Wash curtains if appropriate for the material, but spot clean otherwise. Clean and polish all wooden furniture.
- Your hallways need help. Dust picture frames and use an angle tool on your vacuum and carpet cleaning machine to get into corners and the edge of baseboards. If your hallway table has a drawer, remove it and clean it out before dusting the table.
- Bathrooms should be at their best. Dust and wipe medicine cabinet and vanity shelves. Clean grout with a stiff-bristled brush. Wipe down lighting fixtures and clean window treatments.
- Fix your foyer. Entryways and mudrooms often collect loads of dirt that we disregard because we spend so little time there. If you're worried about tracking dirt into the house with your cleaning tools, use disposable wipes or clean entryways last. Take doormats outside to shake the dust off, then rinse with water and allow them to air dry.
- Clean through and through. Dust ceilings and ceiling fans so that potential allergens aren't blown through the house. Dust and wash walls throughout your home. Clean windows and window frames with vinegar and water.
How often you do these chores may depend upon your personal preference, but doing them once a season will keep most areas reasonably clean.
