See How Yellow Springs Locals Celebrate Christmas

Yellow Springs Ohio Christmas
If you're interested in Yellow Springs homes for sale, you'll be pleased to discover the city's art, culture, and authenticity. Yellow Springs, Ohio is a small community of eclectic buildings and colorful citizens. Its welcoming atmosphere and art-inspired events attract visitors year round. If you visit during the holidays, you can experience local celebrations and traditions that make this city a perfect place to call home.

Our real estate agents believe the holidays are the perfect time to get to know Yellow Springs. We want to help, so we've prepared a list of our favorite holiday events and traditions.

  • Legendary Lights of Clifton Mill
Visitors are never disappointed when they make the journey to Clifton Mill for the annual Holiday light event. A blanket of lights transforms the historic grist mill and its surrounding structures and landscapes into a twinkling Christmas display. It's a fascinating presentation that draws visitors seven days a week.

The entrance opens each evening at 5:00. The display begins at 6:00 pm and ends at 9:00 pm. (Weekday viewings are less crowded.) You can buy hot dogs, BBQ pork sandwiches, and other light food favorites. Admission: $10. per person, children 6 and under free. Parking is free.

  • Cut your own Christmas Tree
From November 24th to December 17th, your family can share a tradition that will make your Christmas tree a more meaningful part of the holiday season. Instead of buying a tree, you can walk the 30-acre Young's Dairy farm, select a living tree and chop it down yourself. Young's will wrap your tree and load it into your car for a safe trip home. You can also buy freshly cut trees, tree-stands, wreaths, and ornaments at the gift shop.

  • Giving Tuesday
November 28 is Giving Tuesday and Yellow Springs Ohio nonprofit organizations encourage residents to make a donation. Funds donated locally go to the Yellow Springs Foundation for distribution among local charities listed at ysgivvingtuesday.org.

  • Yellow Springs Arts Council Holiday Art Jumble
When you donate your crafty, artsy, knick-knacks, craft supplies, and creative castoffs, the Arts Council will sell your treasures to someone else. The Jumble is a recurring event that earns funds for the YSAC. See the Council website for Art Jumble days throughout November and December.

  • Santa Pancake Breakfast
On December 2nd, your little ones can enjoy a breakfast with Santa. The event takes place at the Yellow Springs Methodist Church from 9:00 to 11:30 am. There is no charge for the breakfast but the church will accept any donations.

  • Gingerbread Festival
Your children will love the Gingerbread Festival, sponsored by the Mills Lawn Elementary School PTO. Children can participate in a variety of holiday activities:

    - Selfie photos with Santa
    - Cocoa and snacks
    - Kids Cookie Cottage
    - Wagon rides
    - Santa Springs Raffle
    - The Tyke Shop: Student Council Elves will assist little ones with gift purchases.
    - Gingerbread House Contest: Contestants must drop off entries between 6 and 8 pm Friday evening.

The festival takes place at the Mills Lawn Elementary School on December 9th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Admission is free.
  • Arts Alive Holiday Concert With Heartstrings & Dessert Bake-Off
On December 9th, the Yellow Springs Arts Council will hold a Bake-Off and an Arts Alive concert featuring Heartstrings. The concert takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Admission: $5 donation.
