Memorial Day 2017: Parades, Special Events, and Services around Wright-Patterson AFB
- Memorial Day Weekend at Young's Jersey Dairy – 6880 Springfield Xenia Road, Yellow Springs, Ohio – If you're looking for Memorial Day celebrations in a wholesome, country setting, then Young's Jersey Dairy is more than worth a stop. Young's is a great destination for families because it features activities like mini-golf and the dairy store to keep the kids engaged throughout the day. There is also a driving range, batting cages, petting zoo, and much more. Best of all, Young's always goes big for the holidays.
- Dayton Ohio Patriot Freedom Festival – Dayton VA Medical Center, 4100 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio – This year's Memorial Day celebration at the Dayton VA Medical Center will also mark the 150th anniversary of the the medical center's foundation. It's always a big event for the community, and every member of the family is more than welcome to attend. There is a children's art contest, live music, food, history, free guided tours, and opportunities to learn first-hand about the veterans who make the holiday possible. While you're there, be sure to visit the Miami Valley Military History Museum.
- Beavercreek Memorial Day Ceremony – Veterans Memorial Park 1911 N. Fairfield Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio – For many area residents, Memorial Day is both an exciting celebration and a day of solemn remembrance. You can begin your day by visiting the Beavercreek Memorial Day Ceremony, which takes place in Veterans Memorial Park and honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year's ceremony takes place on May 29, 2017, and free parking is available within short walking distance of the event.
- Springboro Memorial Day Parade – From S. Main Street to Wade Field in Springboro – The Springboro Memorial Day Parade is always one of the largest in the area, because everyone is invited to participate. You can stake out a prime location to watch the parade pass by, or arrive early and let the Grand Marshal know that you would like to walk in the parade. Families are welcome to participate. If you wish to join the parade, just remember to wear a comfortable pair of shoes because it is a walking parade. Many Springboro homes are located along the parade route, so you may even be able to watch from your front porch.
- Centerville, Ohio Memorial Day Event – Stubbs Park 255 W. Spring Valley Road, Centerville, OH – Centerville homes are located in a very historic community. The Centerville Memorial Day event takes place at 9:00 am on Memorial Day in Stubbs Park, where the community's veterans memorial is located. It is a free event, with a ceremony of remembrance and a celebration that includes the VFW Color Guard, Centerville Community Band, and Centerville Police Department honor guard. This year's event features a keynote speech from Col. Bradley McDonald, who serves at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
