5 Tips for Pet Owners When Buying a Home

Tips for Pet Owners Buying a Home

No matter who you are and where you're from, buying a home can be a challenge. That's especially true if you have a beloved four-legged member of the family whose needs might not be the same as yours. That's why our real estate agents at Wright-Patt Realty, Inc. are dedicated to helping you find a home your dog will love. Here are a few tips for buying a house that you and Fido will both feel right at home in.

  1. Check Local Regulations
Do a little research on the area where you plan to move, and familiarize yourself with city and county ordinances that are in place. Rules regarding leashes and cleaning up after your pet vary from place to place. If you are moving to a condo, town house or a planned community, check with the Homeowners Association to find out if they have any special rules in place regarding pets.

  2. Look at the Home's Layout
You can tell a lot by looking at the floor plan when you're buying a house. Consider the interior layout as well as the outdoor area. Will your dog have enough space to feel comfortable? Would carpeted or hardwood floors be better for your dog? Do you have an aging pet that might have trouble climbing stairs? A home's layout and features should be a major part of your decision making, both for you and your pet.

  3. Consider Street Traffic
Any dog, even the most well behaved one, can sometimes escape from your home and head straight for the road. Homes right next to a major thoroughfare with lots of traffic might not be ideal, while a quiet residential street is much safer in the event that your pet decides to bolt. Consider whether or not there is fencing around the home as well.

  4. Find Out About the Neighborhood
One of the best ways to find out if a neighborhood is dog-friendly is to take a look around for yourself. If you see lots of other people out walking their dogs, that's one of the best indicators that your new neighborhood is a good place for man's best friend to feel at home.

  5. Locate Pet-Friendly Services
If you're thinking about buying a house in an unfamiliar area, you're probably already researching nearby amenities, like schools, hospitals, shopping and dining options. Moving with your dog simply means you'll have a few more things to research, including nearby veterinarians, pet food stores, doggie day cares, pet sitters and groomers. While you're at it, take a look at nearby parks and trails to find out where you and your dog can go outside to play, and find out if there are any pet-friendly bars and restaurants in the area.

With a wide range of dog-friendly restaurants and dog parks nearby, you'll find plenty of great Beavercreek homes that are great for pet owners. Contact Wright-Patt Realty today to learn more about pet-friendly homes in Beaver Creek, Ohio. Buying a house is a big step for you and your pooch, and we're committed to helping you find a home you both will love.
